RISE Supervision Curriculum

It's the night before supervision, and you're still deciding what to cover.

RISE is a printed curriculum with the session already written. Each lesson has the assignment your supervisee completes beforehand, the discussion questions for the meeting, a presentation feedback form, and fieldwork ideas for afterward. Open to the next lesson and run it.

RISE Supervision Curriculum paperback

For BCBA®s who supervise, whether you have one supervisee or a full group.

Where the prep time goes

Every supervision meeting asks you to build the same things again

Supervision is a requirement for your supervisees, and it lands on top of a full caseload. Without a curriculum, each meeting means making a string of small decisions before anyone sits down:

  • Picking a topic that follows on from the last meeting.
  • Finding readings and videos worth your supervisee's time.
  • Writing homework questions that test understanding.
  • Writing discussion questions that go past yes and no.
  • Making a feedback form for presentations and observations.
  • Coming up with fieldwork activities that fit the topic.

None of this is difficult. It is repetitive, and it competes with billable work, client emergencies, and everything else on your calendar. When the prep slips, the meeting turns into a case chat and the curriculum never gets covered.

RISE does the building once, so you do not repeat it for every meeting and every supervisee.

How a lesson works

Every lesson follows the same three steps

The format repeats across all 24 lessons. Your supervisee always knows what to prepare, and you always know what comes next.

1

Before the meeting

Your supervisee
  • Chooses from a list of readings and videos
  • Answers written questions on what they read
  • Applies the idea to a behavior of their own
  • Prepares a 5 to 10 minute presentation
  • Practices SAFMEDS
2

In the meeting

You and your supervisee
  • Housekeeping checklist: agenda, documentation, homework review, feedback
  • Discussion questions ready to ask
  • Supervisee presents, and you score the feedback form
  • Case review with set questions
  • Observation tasks with data sheets
3

Between meetings

Your supervisee, on the job
  • Fieldwork ideas that tie the lesson to their own caseload
  • Practice with team members and collaterals
  • Material to bring back to the next case review

Your prep for each meeting is reading the lesson. The assignment, questions, forms, and activities are already written.

A look inside

What one lesson looks like

This is Lesson "Identifying, Prioritizing and Defining Behavior for Change," taken from the book.

Behavior Reduction

Identifying, Prioritizing and Defining Behavior for Change

GoalDetermine the necessity for services and identify behaviors that will produce meaningful change.

Assignment

  • Watch a short video of a child's tantrum, define the behavior, and list your first steps
  • Prepare a 5 to 10 minute presentation for RBTs or caregivers

Discussion questions

  • "What did you learn while trying to define your own behavior?"
  • "If you disagree with a parent or caregiver over the priority of treatment goals, how would you resolve this conflict?"
  • "How do you determine the social significance or social validity of targeting a specific behavior?"

Fieldwork ideas

  • Write operational definitions for your learner's behaviors, with onset, offset, examples, and non-examples, then have team members measure from your words

Meet the author
Amelia Dalphonse

Amelia Dalphonse, MA, BCBA

Amelia co-founded Master ABA with her twin sister, Dianna Kelly. She has worked with children and families since 1996, and with autistic individuals since 2009. She earned a Master's degree in ABA and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®), driven by a focus on what clients need.

As an ACE provider, Master ABA gives practitioners a place to learn compassionate, ethical approaches to ABA. The curriculum reflects that: the first fundamentals lesson looks at the history of ABA and the concerns autistic individuals raise about it, so supervisees learn to practice with that perspective in mind.

Questions

Before you order

How much prep does a meeting take?

Very little. The assignment, discussion questions, forms, and fieldwork ideas are written. You read the lesson, check your supervisee's homework against the answer key, and run the meeting.

Can I use it for group supervision?

Yes. The presentation and feedback steps are written for both one-on-one and group meetings, so other supervisees can give feedback too.

Do I have to go in order?

You can. The Supervision Orientation lessons come first and cover expectations, documentation, structure, and goals. After that, each lesson stands on its own, so you can pick the topic your supervisee needs next.

Is there a PDF version of the book?

The book is available as a printed paperback only. The forms, checklists, trackers, and workbook that come with it are downloadable.

When will my copy arrive?

The paperback is sent by Amazon, usually in 3 to 4 weeks. Your downloads are available right after you order.
